Large and impressive Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern 6 bay L-shaped shelving system model Royal. This is an original vintage floating bookcase designed in 1948 by Danish architect Poul Cadovius.
Cadovius had the revolutionary idea to design a floating, modular shelving system that would maximize floor space and signify the end of conformity in shelving. The Royal System shelving unit went on to win the gold medal at the Finland Furniture Fair in 1950 and silver medal at the XI Triennale di Milano 1957 and remained a hallmark of Scandinavian modern design throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Versatile and flexible floating bookcase that allows for continuous rearranging to suit individual needs.

This original Cado Royal System is suitable for both living room, home office or library and includes five rare corner shelves. The corner bay can be placed anywhere between the regular bays or at either end.
All cabinets and shelves can be moved around as desired without the use of tools.

In the setup shown in the photos, the long side (with the two cabinets) measures 322 cm and the short side (with the floating desk) 162 cm, measured along the wall. All cabinets and shelves have a width of 80 cm.

This set consists of:
6 Uprights in solid teak, length 198 cm.
1 Corner upright in solid teak, length 198 cm.
1 Cabinet with woven drop down door and two drawers and one shelf, 40 x 80 x 51.5 cm
1 Cabinet with sliding doors and one shelf, 24 x 80 x 33.5 cm
1 Console/writing desk with two drawers, 40 x 80 x 9 cm
11 Shelves, depth 24 cm.
5 Corner shelves, depth 24 cm.

Several shelves are stamped "Made in Denmark" on the back. Patinated brass brackets. Some shelves are with the older brass bracket holes and some are with the newer wooden bracket hole.

This item will be disassembled for transport.

Good vintage condition with patina consistent with age and use. Nicks, scratches and spots. Large cabinet has some smaller repairs on the inside. All parts have been checked and all surfaces have been cleaned and refreshed. Ready for use. This piece has an attribution mark,
