The elegant vessel is cast in flowing asymmetrical scrollwork, richly decorated with organic curves, volutes, and shell-like accents that define the exuberance of mid-19th-century French decorative arts.

Marked with the monogram V S and a three-masted ship inside a circular cartouche, the piece reflects Salles’ distinctive maker’s mark. Victor Salles was a respected Parisian silversmith, known for large decorative silverplate pieces crafted for aristocratic and upper-bourgeois interiors during the Second Empire and early Belle Époque.

This jardinière would have originally been used to hold flower arrangements or as a centerpiece on a grand table. Today it remains a striking ornamental piece, perfect for classic interiors, châteaux-inspired décor, or collectors of fine French silverwork.
