A colorful and charming Majolica pottery vase from the German modernist Bauhaus era, designed in the late 1920s by Eva … Read more A colorful and charming Majolica pottery vase from the German modernist Bauhaus era, designed in the late 1920s by Eva Zeisel for the Schramberg Majolika Fabrik (SMF) in Germany. Handmade from ceramic and hand-painted, the vase features a geometric, playful and graphic pattern known as the “Gobelin 4” design. Its surface displays a smoky grey, textured background overlaid with vibrant, diagonally arranged stripes in blue, yellow, red and green. The result is a lattice-like motif reminiscent of tapestry-like gobelins. This piece is a beautiful example of the Bauhaus period, with its emphasis on angularity and clean lines, while also reflecting Art Deco influences. This vase is an early work by the then-young designer for Schramberg. It remains in very good condition, with no damages. Eva Zeisel’s creations were remarkably unconventional for their time and remain highly regarded in the world of modern ceramic design. Diameter 7“, height 8“.
