Exceptional pair of large hand-painted display plates in Sèvres-style, each featuring a dramatic 18th-century naval battle scene. The ships under Dutch colours are rendered with fine brushwork: cannon smoke, movement of the sea, detailed rigging and sails.
The borders are finished in a deep royal cobalt blue with raised matte gilded Rococo scrollwork – an icon of French luxury porcelain decorating traditions.
