It was Jungdestil ("Youth Style" and at the heart of Jungdenstil was elegant flatware, rendered in 800 silver (arg), thats 800 parts per thousand silver and 200 parts alloy. In the case of knives {which were utilitarian plus) that included "rostfrei", literally, stainless steel, blades. Jungdestil emerged in 1890s Germany as a reaction to and against industrialization and the things thereby produced. At core was a longing to restore craftsmanship to the center of producing everyday things. It was characterized by organic flowing lines, naturalistic floral motifs and the desire to merge art with everyday functionality. These silver handled, stainless blades are direct products to the movement's concepts.

Here, one sees both silver handle and rostfrei blade marked on the same side of the knives, which are 9" long. Their shape closely resembles that of the French "Old Hollow" form. These are in excellent condition, and bear some are appropriate marks of prior use on the blades.

As everyone has their own favorite form of cleaning tarnish from silver, I will not remove tarnish from the items which obtains between when the photos were taken and when they are sent to you, their new owner.
