A Very Rare and Unusual Purple and Gray Transferware Decorated Coffeepot, Circa 1830's
Unknown pattern or maker.
Made in the Staffordshire district of Stoke on Trent, circa 1830-1840's
Very rare purple/lavender colour transfer with a gray transfer medallion with latin script for a special order.
The Latin script: "Joannes Est Nomen Ejus", meaning "John is his name".
During our research, we were unable to find another example of this exact pattern.
Whimsical purple transfer decoration of nautical themes, and a walled city.
Size: 10 1/2" handle to spout, 5 3/4" deep, and 10 1/2" tall.
Condition: Restored handle, and a section of restoration on the top edge. some repairs and bruising on the interior rim where the lid rests. A few minor glaze chippies on the spout tip. Use and wear marks associated with age.
