Impressed on the base is a Wang Bingrong seal mark, linking this piece to the lineage of Jingdezhen artists known for signed carved and molded wares. Wang Bingrong (active mid-19th century and whose name continued to be used into the Republic era) was among the first independent ceramicists to sign his porcelain, blurring the line between craftsman and recognized artist, and his signature is found on high-relief porcelain objects collected and sold worldwide.
