It has a lid with a finial that just fits the holder on the frame.
Elevate your collection with this over-the-top Aesthetic Movement pickle caster, a quintessential example of late 19th-century Japonisme. This highly decorative piece showcases the Victorian obsession with nature and Far Eastern design, featuring an intricate frame adorned with stylized Japanese fans and whimsical beetle accents.
The Frame is a masterclass in Aesthetic detail; the frame is topped with a delicate floral motif finial. Opposite sides of the holder feature beautifully rendered Japanese fan adornments. The piece stands securely on four uniquely designed feet, each decorated with fans and charming miniature beetles. A pressed glass jar fits snugly within the holder, paired with a matching lid designed to sit beneath the frame's top arch. Includes the original (or period-correct) pair of tongs, which hang elegantly from a leaf-shaped hook built directly into the frame.
A stamped mark on the underside of the frame reads PAIRPOINT MFG. CO QUADRUPLE PLATE, as well as the Pairpoint trademark of a P within a diamond. A production number of 642 is nearby.
