Original Chinese ink-and-wash figure painting titled “Shepherd” (牧羊人) by Chinese artist Yang Xinmin (also known as Yang Cheng, art name Meiyun Jushi, b. 1935).
This expressive work depicts an elderly rural figure rendered in confident, fluid brushstrokes that emphasize spirit and movement over strict realism—hallmarks of traditional literati painting. The composition balances bold ink work with subtle color accents, conveying warmth, humility, and human connection.
The artwork is hand-painted on paper, signed in Chinese, and bears the artist’s original red seal. Yang Xinmin was a respected Shaanxi-based calligrapher and painter, a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, and served as Executive Vice President of the Shaanxi Qinling Calligraphy and Painting Academy.
