This listing is for a gorgeous Victorian era entry table or vanity.
This piece dates to the 3rd quarter of the 19th century (1850-1875) and is of English origin.
The table is a creation of the Aesthetic Art Movement (Aestheticism).
It features a combination of Anglo-Japanese and Orientalist motifs.
The Anglo-Japanese style was central to the Aesthetic Art Movement. It was a purely English style, inspired by Japanese art and design.
The entire piece is made from wood with a red tint mimicking lacquer.
The center is carved with ornamented corners, inspired by East Asian temples and architecture.
The table has an unusual carved top that almost looks like a roof. This top piece has carved arches and pillars, inspired by the Middle East. A layer of intricate wood inlay encompasses the top edges.
Reverse painted glass depicting flowers and nature adorn the upper parts, as well as the sides and interior. One of them depicts a volcano, most likely inspired by Japanese paintings depicting Mt. Fuji.
There are 2 drawers located. at the bottom of the hutch. They have burled wood detailing.
There is 1 drawer beneath the table surface. The drawer has a carved design depicting a fictitious carnivorous plant with a vicious looking head.
The entire piece measures about 69.3 (height) x 17 (depth) x 33.35 (width) inches
The height of the table surface is about 31.5 inches
