Condition & Restoration Notes
This piece is an original antique ceramic bowl attributed to the Fajalauza tradition (Granada, Spain), dating to the late 18th – early 19th century.
The bowl shows clear signs of historical use and age, consistent with its period. At some point in the 19th or early 20th century, the piece was professionally restored using traditional methods of the time. The body was carefully reassembled from fragments and structurally stabilized using period metal staples, a common and historically appropriate repair technique for ceramics of this era.
The ceramic body is currently stable, solid, and suitable for display.
In recent times, a conservation-level cosmetic restoration was carried out in order to stabilize and visually unify the surface:
• Small areas of loss were carefully retouched using reversible acrylic conservation paints.
• The retouching was limited strictly to damaged zones and does not alter the original decoration.
• A thin protective varnish layer was applied to seal and protect the restoration, ensuring stability and resistance to light handling or gentle dusting.
The reverse side was intentionally left untreated to preserve its original surface, patina, and historical character.
This piece is sold as an authentic antique with visible age, historical repairs, and conservation work, all of which are consistent with ceramics of this type and period. It is intended for decorative and collectible purposes and is not suitable for food use or washing.
Overall condition: Structurally stable, visually coherent, and professionally conserved, with authentic signs of age and restoration consistent with an 18th–19th century object.
