Each vase features a deep … Read more An exquisite pair of hand-painted porcelain vases of Sèvres, dating to the late 19th century. Each vase features a deep cobalt blue ground with finely detailed gilt embellishments and romantic Rococo-style cartouches depicting idyllic courtship scenes. The central medallions are beautifully framed in raised gold scrollwork, accentuating the elegance of the painted figures.

The vases are surmounted by original lids with pinecone finials, and flanked by ornate ormolu (gilt bronze) handles in the form of acanthus leaves, terminating on a square plinth base with finely chased details. One of the lids shows an old, visible restoration — a fracture and chip, consistent with age and shown in the photographs.

Signed G. Maurice, a 19th-century porcelain painter known for his romantic figural scenes and work in the Sèvres. His pieces are highly collectible and appreciated for their fine brushwork and period charm.
