This Japanese chazutsu (tea caddy) is a fine example of skilled turning with a distinctly organic character.
Dimensions: height 17.5 cm, diameter 13.5 cm.
The body is carefully turned and finished in a warm, satin-brown tone, with subtle lathe rings that keep the handwork visible. The lid fits precisely and closes perfectly, making the caddy feel solid and satisfying to use.
The most striking feature sits around the shoulder: the tree’s natural bark has been deliberately left intact. This rugged, richly textured band contrasts beautifully with the smoothly polished wood, giving the piece an almost sculptural presence. It reflects a Japanese approach to craftsmanship in which the material’s natural character actively shapes the design.
Today, it works both as a functional tea storage caddy and as a warm, natural accent on a shelf, tea table, or in open cabinetry. In perfect condition.
