This rarely available first-edition collectible book documents the rediscovery and modern re-creation of ancient Greek furniture designs that had been largely overlooked for more than two millennia. Internationally renowned furniture designer T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings devoted over twenty years to studying and assembling design motifs from museums around the world, drawing on sculptural reliefs, vase paintings, terracottas, and bronze statuary of classical Greece. Based on this extensive research, he recreated twenty-two furniture models representing the full range of Greek design from the sixth through the fourth centuries B.C. These reconstructions are fully documented in the book, alongside the original paintings and vase decorations that served as Robsjohn-Gibbings’s primary source material. See less
