Monkey vintage candlestick table lamp by Hauy Pouigo, signed, in silver plated bronze & brass, 1970`s ca, Italian.
This vintage lamp has been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. It is newly rewired, earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to use. It has the following new components: lamp holder with a cream card cover, gold silk cable, white cord switch, white plug (UK Plug up to 250V) & parchment lampshade. Lightbulb included. This lamp can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use this light in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity.
Presented here is an original Hauy Pouigo vintage monkey candlestick lamp, a very distinctive piece, combining elegant materials with a whimsical shape. It is signed "Hauy Pouigo" by the artist at the bottom of the base. The mixed metal materials lend a sense of luxury.
Pouigo, a sculptor and designer specialized in decorative arts for the home, is often linked to the Italian Modernist and Hollywood Regency movements of the 20th Century. Pouigo’s work frequently features animal motifs and a blend of luxury materials.
The organic sculptural form & playful theme make this lamp well proportioned for a table, bedside, console, desk, mantelpiece or sideboard. It would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Art Deco, Traditional, Country, Hollywood Regency, or Contemporary.
The core structure of this lamp is a figural monkey, crafted from bronze and finished with silver plating, capturing the dynamic pose of the creature. The monkey sculpture is of heavy weight making the piece very stable.
The monkey is depicted in a sitting or climbing posture, with one arm reaching upwards and the other holding the brass candle holder element. The quality of the casting is superb, showing great detail & personality in the expression of the monkey`s face.
The lamp rests on a circular base in gilt metal, providing a warm, contrasting golden tone to the cooler silver finish of the monkey figure. A vertical gilt metal cylinder, where the monkey sits, is also integrated into the base design.
The candle holder itself features brass accents at the bobeche and base. On top sits a new lamp holder covered by a new cream card candle tube, echoing the look of period candlesticks.
The lamp is finished with a new, clip on tapered drum shade made of parchment with a cream fabric (like rope) trim, which beautifully diffuses the light and adds a warm tone.
Carries 1 standard small screw light bulb (E14) up to 60 Watts (maximum 40 Watts with the existing shade). At present fitted & photographed with a new LED 4.5 Watt dimmable Candle Clear shaped light bulb (equivalent of 40 Watts), included in the price.
This vintage lamp is in good condition for its age. The vintage patina has been preserved. The metal base is all sound with no damages, missing or broken parts, only a smooth rubbing to the gilt in some areas & minor subtle superficial marks, adding character & depth, all in line with age & wear. The lampshade is new and in very good condition.

HAUY POUIGO ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Hauy Pouigo is an Italian artist and sculptor active during the mid 20th Century, based in Florence, particularly known for his decorative works from the 1960`s and 1970`s. His style is often associated with the Hollywood Regency and Chinoiserie aesthetics. He remains a somewhat enigmatic figure in 20th Century Design, with very little personal biographical data available despite the popularity of his work in high end décor markets.
Pouigo’s work frequently features animal motifs and a blend of luxury materials like horn, bronze, silver & gold. He spec ialized in decorative arts for the home. He did not follow traditional fine art paths but instead focused on the Italian craft tradition of blending organic and industrial materials. His most significant contribution was the innovative use of natural animal horns (such as bull or ram) which he reshaped into the bodies of stylized birds and fish, candelabras, silver plated trays, lidded canisters, ginger jars with malachite finials, and brass animal mounted candle holders.
