Executed in raised polychrome enamels with gilded accents on a rich turquoise ground, this large Forme 1643 plate exemplifies the high decorative quality of Longwy production in the early 1950s. The ornamental, Moorish‑influenced motifs and natural craquelure give the piece exceptional visual depth.

The reverse is stamped Émaux de Longwy Chevreuse, marked Forme 1643, and retains an old collector’s label dated 1952.

About Longwy
Founded in 1798 in Lorraine, the Faïencerie de Longwy is internationally recognized for its distinctive enamelled ceramics. In the late 19th century, the manufactory developed its signature cloisonné-style technique, characterized by fine black outlining and richly saturated enamel colors inspired by Islamic, Persian, and later Art Deco design traditions.

This example bears the mark “Emaux de Longwy – Chevreuse – Décor de M.P. Chevallier,” identifying both the décor line and the decorator. Produced during the mid-20th-century revival of Longwy enamels, such pieces reflect the continued refinement of the manufactory’s intricate hand-applied enamel work. Longwy ceramics remain highly regarded for their luminous color, technical precision, and distinctive decorative presence.
