This refined series of four prints narrates, like a narrative sequence, a hunting trip in the English countryside at the beginning of the 19th century. The scenes follow one another with a natural rhythm, leading the viewer through the various moments: the departure, the search, the capture, and the rest, in a refined balance between landscape, figures, and animals.

These are aquatint engravings, printed with tannin-colored ink and enhanced with a very fine coloring contemporary with watercolor, which lends depth, atmosphere, and a surprising chromatic delicacy. The rendering of the skies, terrain, and trees demonstrates a mature and controlled technique, typical of the finest English productions of the period.

The prints are engraved by Thomas Sutherland (b. 1785), an artist who established himself primarily as an engraver of hunting and horse scenes and is considered one of the most skilled interpreters of the aquatint technique.

The subjects are based on drawings by Dean Wolstenholme (1757–1837), a celebrated English painter and illustrator specializing in hunting scenes, known for his ability to capture the dynamism and relationship between man, dog, and landscape.
