the sensual grace of rococo is revived in this sanguine, where myth meets the refinement of crayon.
an elegant and warm engraving made using the crayon (or soft ground) technique, impressed with sanguine ink, which conveys the modeling of the figures with great softness and sensuality.
the subject, clearly inspired by rococo, is based on a famous model by françois boucher, a master of 18th-century grace and lightness.
the work is engraved by auguste pequegnot (versailles, 1819 – paris, 1878), an ornamental painter, landscape artist, and printmaker, a student of pierre-luc-charles ciceri. A prolific and multifaceted artist, he exhibited regularly at the paris salon from 1849 to 1878 and also distinguished himself as the author of essays on drawing and painting.
period: mid-19th century.
the print is embellished with a beautiful contemporary frame in carved wood gilded with gold leaf, featuring stylized palmettes, internal beading, and a molded profile, typical of the 19th-century neoclassical decorative tradition with louis xvi influences. With antique blown glass.
