An antique European Savonnerie carpet from the turn of the 19th century; signed "Gavino Stuvok" and dated "1805." Savonnerie rugs were created in the 17th century and originated in a soap (French savon) factory turned carpet manufacturer by Pierre DuPont who was inspired by Levant and Eastern Mediterranean design. Age-old European Savonneries are a work of art. The historical value far exceeds any damage that comes with centuries of wear. The distressed feel makes for a more decorative look which brings antiquity and authenticity into these rugs that still remain a symbol of prestige and sophistication.
