The chairs … Read more This antique set of four Arras garden chairs dates from the early to mid-19th century (± 1840- 1880). The chairs feature the rare claw feet, also known as patte de lion. These stylized lion paws are an iconic feature of the earliest Arras furniture and were designed to provide stability on unpaved surfaces.

The chairs are manufactured according to the traditional artisanal Arras method, where the construction consists of thick half-round iron slats and riveted joints instead of welding. Although this set does not feature a copper maker's plate, this is very common for Arras furniture from this early production period. The quality of the ironwork and the specific design of the claw feet are unmistakable indicators of their origin and do not detract from the authenticity of these original collector's items.

The metal has been polished, resulting in a beautiful effect where the natural patina and the raw beauty of the antique iron are fully highlighted. The entire set is in beautiful antique condition with a weathered patina that emphasizes the historical value of the wrought iron.
