Original hand-tinted folio lithograph from Egypt & Nubia From Drawings Made on the Spot by David Roberts, R.A., with lithography by Louis Haghe and publication by F. G. Moon, London, 1849.

This view of the Grand Portico at Philae emphasizes ceremonial scale and architectural rhythm, rendered with remarkable depth through the Standard Edition tint-stone printing. The interplay of light and shadow across the columns showcases Haghe’s mastery of lithographic nuance.
The Standard Edition marginal title, printed in warm orange-tan ink rather than black, is visible on the plate, and the original title label has been preserved on the reverse of the frame — an intact documentary detail from early ownership.
Egypt & Nubia was issued by subscription and counted Queen Victoria among its earliest supporters. Today, the series is widely recognized as the culmination of 19th-century tinted lithography before photographic reproduction reshaped publishing economics.
