The Batak are known for the elaborate decoration of their buildings and these decorative panel additions would have been one of a number of panels and carvings which would have decorated the front facade of an important structure; likely from a granary, or the house of a village leader. A stylised lion head, Singa, is the central design focus, and provides protection. The panels are colored with orange, white and black, the three key colours found in Batak house decoration. See less
