This vibrant jungle painting is characteristic of the Haitian Naïve art style by Maxo Jn Louis.
Maxan Jean-Louis (b. 1966) is a self-taught Haitian painter known for his distinctive style inspired by Vodou culture and the political history of Haiti. He was encouraged to paint in 1992 by his cousins Henri and Eric Jean-Louis, who were also famous Haitian artists. His work is part of the permanent collection at the Charlotte Zander Museum in Germany.
The style, with its flattened perspective, meticulous patterns, and vibrant, saturated colors, is typical of the genre and often depicts "peaceable kingdom" scenes of animals coexisting in a lush environment.
Maxo Jn Louis (also known as Maxan Jean-Louis) is a Haitian painter known for his vibrant, richly textured naïve art style, often depicting lush jungle scenes with various animals.
Background: Born in 1966 in Jeremie, Haiti, he later moved to Port-au-Prince and learned painting from his cousins Henri Jean-Louis and Eric Jean-Louis.
Career: He initially painted "pretty images of beloved Haiti" but his work evolved to a more surreal style after the 1991 coup, chronicling political events and ceremonies.
His artworks are often acrylic on canvas or masonite.
