Edward Brodney was born in Boston on April 15, 1910. He started formal studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and at the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, while he was still at English High School, Boston. He studied at the School of Fine Arts at Yale before finishing a six-year course at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston .
