An antique Japanese lacquer chinoiserie spill vase or brush holder that has such minute detail. It could also be used to hold writing implements.
A lightweight wood or paper has been covered in coatings of black lacquer and then hand-painted with intricate gilt (gold) Chinoiserie decoration featuring figures in a landscape. The gilt paintings are very delicate and all encompassing. The faces are all individual and were painted in a lighter pigment.
MEASUREMENTS
3 in (7.6 cm) diameter x 4 ¾ in (12.1 cm) tall. Weighs 2.3 oz.
CONDITION
There are no cracks, chips, breaks, or repairs. There is slight wear to the gilding on the mouth rim. The paintings are in very good condition with little wear.
