A striking pair of solid brass “Spread Eagle” bookends by Virginia Metalcrafters, dated 1952 and stamped model 8‑9 on the reverse. Each features a finely detailed American eagle with fully spread wings, clutching a Union shield above laurel and arrows in classic Federal‑style patriotic imagery.
The fronts retain a bright, polished golden finish, while the backs and bases are painted black, typical of Virginia Metalcrafters’ mid‑century production. Heavy enough to support a generous row of books, they are equally handsome on a mantel, desktop, or in a home office or library vignette.
