Monumental hand-modeled and hand-glazed ceramic rooster by Florentine artist Armando Poggi, signed “Armando Poggi – Firenze.” Crafted in Italy in the mid- to late-20th century, this sculptural work exemplifies Poggi’s expressive approach to animal forms and his mastery of traditional Italian ceramic techniques.
The rooster features dramatic, deeply carved tail feathers, a powerfully modeled body, and a vivid red comb and wattle. The surface is finished in richly layered glazes of black, white, green, and earth tones, with natural variation and pooling consistent with hand-glazed studio ceramics. The scale is exceptional, giving the piece strong architectural presence and making it a true statement object.
This work is entirely hand-formed rather than mold-cast, with visible sculptural detailing throughout. Poggi’s signed animal figures, particularly large roosters, are among his most recognizable and sought-after creations and are increasingly difficult to find in this size and condition.
Condition: Very good vintage condition with no visible cracks, repairs, or restorations. Minor glaze variation and firing marks present, consistent with age and handmade construction.
