This impressive piece offers a haunting depiction of these majestic beasts. By revered Canadian artist, Robert Bateman. Following completion of a geography degree from Victoria College, Bateman sketched and painted his way across Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Australia... then went on to teach high school art and geography for twenty years before committing himself entirely to his craft. Initially an abstract artist, Bateman drifted into the realism for which he has become famous, but always focused on nature and wilderness. At 95 years of age, he remains active in his art and in his advocation for nature awareness and conservation.
Bateman is recipient of many awards, ranging from two Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medals, to Human Rights Defender Award presented by Amnesty International, and the Audubon Society of Canada declared Bateman one of the top 100 environmental proponents of the 20th century.
