Authentic antique American stoneware crock featuring a charming hand-decorated cobalt blue bird motif. Crafted in classic salt-glazed stoneware with a warm gray-beige body, this piece displays the desirable rustic texture and subtle speckling associated with 19th-century Pennsylvania pottery.
The crock is stamped with a maker's mark "D. Eldreth" (David Eldreth) and “Nottingham, PA”, indicating origin from one of the most historically significant stoneware-making regions in the United States. Nottingham-area potteries were especially active in the mid-to-late 1800s and are known for their utilitarian forms paired with expressive folk-art decoration.
The bold blue bird design is hand-brushed, with lovely movement and variation that reflects true artisanal craftsmanship. Traditional lug handles on either side complete the form, making it both sculptural and functional in appearance.
A beautiful example of early American folk pottery—ideal for collectors, decorators, or as a standout accent in a kitchen, entryway, or shelf display. The inside of the pot at the bottom is 5.5"W
