The carcass is crafted from fine hardwoods and veneered with carefully selected timbers, richly decorated with refined marquetry. The rectangular top with softly rounded corners features a central allegorical composition depicting attributes of the arts and sciences, executed in polychrome inlay and framed by an elaborate ornamental border. The outline of the top is accentuated by a finely chased gilt bronze gallery. The frieze is adorned with floral marquetry and enriched with gilt bronze mounts at the corners. The front incorporates a single drawer fitted with a gilt bronze pull. The interior is arranged with compartments intended for writing implements. A hinged top reveals an additional working surface with a mirror mounted to the inner side. The turned, fluted legs are decorated with gilt bronze mounts and terminate in sabots. They are united by curved stretchers converging toward a central decorative finial in the form of a vase, set on a contrasting plinth. The overall composition is distinguished by harmonious proportions, high-quality craftsmanship and the decorative richness characteristic of the period. Marks: None observed. Dimensions: Height: 73 cm; Width: 60 cm; Depth: 42.5 cm. Condition: Very good. Professionally restored, with preservation of the original materials and the author’s structural concept. See less
