Carved from solid walnut, the composition is centered by a bold classical cartouche flanked by two finely modeled putti, each rendered with expressive facial features, rounded forms, and confident anatomical detail. Flowing acanthus scrolls and marine-inspired motifs extend outward in a balanced, symmetrical arrangement, creating a strong sense of movement while maintaining architectural discipline. The carving is deep and assured throughout, demonstrating the hand of a highly skilled artisan.
Measuring nearly five feet in length, this substantial carving was originally intended as a decorative pediment for a cabinet or as part of integrated boiserie, and may also have been used as an overdoor in a finely paneled interior.
