This one-of-a-kind, hand-painted decorative gourd is an authentic piece of Native American folk art created by C.J. Prophet, a well-known artist recognized for Southwest and Hopi-inspired works. The gourd features traditional Mimbres-style motifs, including figures resembling Kokopelli alongside animal imagery such as a turtle or rabbit, symbolizing harmony, storytelling, and connection to nature.
The design is painted in black and white with striking turquoise accents, enhanced by a subtle shimmering sparkle that adds depth and visual interest. Kokopelli is traditionally associated with fertility, abundance, joy, music, and life, making this piece both meaningful and visually captivating.
The naturally curved stem at the top forms a beautiful organic handle, highlighting the natural character of the gourd. The bottom is hand-signed by the artist and reads:
“CJ Prophet Kokopelli Hohokam 1050 A.D.”
This piece is believed to date to the late 20th century and is a true collectible.
Perfect as Southwestern home décor, a gallery display, or a thoughtful, symbolic gift, this gourd is truly one of a kind.
