It is housed in a First State, uncommon, Colored Square variant jacket. With a Prologue by Carl Sandburg (Steichen's brother-in-law), the book captures the heart of the exhibit's 503 photographs from 68 countries. Steichen created the Post-War exhibit for The MOMA, designed as a manifesto for peace and human unity after WWII. The exhibit was one of the most influential photography collections ever displayed and published, highlighting the universal themes of Love, Work, Birth, and Death and Justice.. The book was later recognized by UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register for its historic value. Featured are b/w photos by some of the most esteemed Mid-Century photographers, including Doisneau, Cartier-Bresson, Arnold, Arbus, Eisenstaedt, Lange and more. Quotes by James Joyce, William Blake, Plato, Loi Chi, Native American tribes and more. At a time when most of the world is actively wishing for Peace, both at home, and abroad, this widely-cherished book renews its poignancy. It's been reprinted many times, both in hard and soft cover. This 70+-year-old hardcover is in very good condition, with mild edge wear to the jacket.. The striking photos, inside remain, clean, bright and unmarked.
