This complete Metropolitan Seminars in Art portfolio set was produced by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, circa 1958. The set was originally created as an educational art study program and includes all fourteen portfolios — Portfolios 1–12 plus the supplemental Portfolios A and B.
Each portfolio retains its original color art prints. The prints present beautifully with strong color and no obvious fading, making this a wonderful study collection or display set for designers, collectors, or art lovers. Authored by noted art critic and educator John Canaday, this series walks through major painting movements and artistic principles, from Realism and Expressionism through composition theory and historic techniques like fresco, tempera, and oil painting. These were designed as museum teaching portfolios rather than traditional bound books. Each portfolio contains loose color plates intended for study or framing, housed inside the original portfolio covers. The cover graphics are beautiful on their own, but knowing each volume contains frameable art plates makes them even more special. It is like owning a miniature study collection from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This is a fantastic mid-century museum publication set that works equally well as a reference library, coffee table display, or decorative styling element in studies, libraries, or creative interiors.
