The decoration is heightened with gilt, white, pale blue and iron-red enamels, a hallmark of Doulton’s Slater’s Patent technique.

Each vase is finished with an olive-green glazed neck and a deep cobalt blue foot with gilt detailing. The bases are impressed with the Royal Doulton factory marks, Slater’s Patent, pattern number 2266, and bear the decorator’s initials EB.

At 34 cm high, this is a strong, well-balanced pair with excellent decorative impact, ideal for flanking a mantelpiece, console, or sideboard. This piece has an attribution mark,
