This Yixing zisha teapot is modeled in the form of a cylindrical scholar and decorated with the “Three Friends of Winter” motif—pine, bamboo, and plum—symbols of resilience and endurance in Chinese literati culture. Executed in unglazed zisha clay, the body contrasts natural clay tones with applied inlay accents, emphasizing surface texture and form rather than glaze.
The compact vessel features a fitted lid, short spout, and squared handle, consistent with late 20th-century Yixing workshop production intended for functional tea service. Such teapots were valued for their material properties, which interact with brewed tea over time. The piece reflects the enduring tradition of symbolic ornamentation within Chinese scholar's tea ware.
