Varietéprobe 1925 by Christian Schad for Edition Panderma, Basel, 1925This woodcut, titled Varietéprobe 1925, is a work by Christian Schad. Produced in 1925 by Edition Panderma, Basel, this piece is part of Unknown edition size.Christian Schad (1894–1982) was a major German painter associated with Dada and the New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit). While famous for his hyper-realistic, often coolly detached portraits of Weimar Berlin society, his early work included experiments with "Schadographs" (cameraless photography) and woodcuts. "Varietéprobe" captures the atmosphere of the 1920s cabaret scene. Schad's work is celebrated for its technical precision and its psychological penetration, making him one of the most important chroniclers of the interwar period.Condition:
