The composition features a central medallion surrounded by scrolling acanthus forms and ornamental borders rendered in muted tones of gold blue soft red and earth hues. Natural wear and fading give the surface a rich patina that reflects centuries of age and use. Originally woven in Brussels present day Belgium this fragment once formed part of a larger wall tapestry produced for European interiors. Brussels workshops were renowned for their mastery of silk and wool weaving and for producing highly decorative Baroque textiles.
