Previously attributed to William Powell Frith, England, 1819-1909. The board that it is painted on is labelled "Romney" , likely the name of a framer or artist's materials supplier. The scene includes an image of a caned-back Charles II side chair, an English 17th century type gateleg table, an oriental rug, and a leafage scroll type Chippendale looking glass of the late 18th century among other period details. Framed in a later antique gilt frame. The painting is late 18th or early 19th century. See less
