This piece originates from the Batak culture of North Sumatra, Indonesia. The figure is characterized by a powerful stylized form: an elongated human face with pronounced features, a compact and expressive rider, and a solid, stocky horse. The surface shows a deep, uneven old patina with visible wear consistent with age and ritual handling, confirming its authenticity. Such sculptures were used within ritual or symbolic contexts, often associated with protection, authority, or ancestral power in Batak society. Period: 19th century (likely pre-1900) Origin: North Sumatra, Indonesia Material: Bronze Dimensions: height 12.5 cm – length approx. 10 cm Condition: good original condition with age-related wear and casting irregularitiesBatak bronzes of this type are rare.
