An exceptional investment-grade antique, this late 19th-century Anglo-Indian chest (circa 1880) is a masterwork of the British Raj era. Most colonial trunks from this period utilize a standard rectangular form; however, this specimen features a rare serpentine "bow-front" silhouette, a sophisticated design requiring a high level of woodworking mastery to steam and curve the solid tropical hardwood frame.
Hand-carved in the Kashmiri tradition, the frame is adorned with intricate foliate and floral borders. The piece retains its original ebonized finish, which has developed a magnificent, layered patina. Subtle hints of the warm, underlying hardwood peek through the deep black tones—a hallmark of authenticity that distinguishes it from modern reproductions.
The chest features expansive panels of hand-woven basket-weave cane, all remarkably preserved. To ensure its longevity, the piece has been professionally conserved by OC’s Finest using organic beeswax and orange oil, deep-conditioning the fibers while preserving the historic 140-year-old finish.
Collector’s Authentication:

• Structural Integrity: Features a clean, hand-planed solid wood interior, showcasing the authentic tool marks of the 19th-century artisan.
• Versatility: At 19.5" high, it serves as a prestigious side table, bedside nightstand, or statement storage piece for the modern luxury interior.
