Newton captured this image at nighttime in front of his own home at the time in Paris for a now infamous Yves Saint Laurent campaign launching their line of women's suit sets. Captured after hours as they had to return the fashion items to the boutique for display during business hours, Newton captured the iconic lamplighting and cobblestone streets in striking detail. The image is part of a three-image series, with this being the first, and the following two including a nude model in different poses. Possibly the most recognizable image from Newton's fashion era, Rue Aubriot is coveted by collectors worldwide.

Condition and Materials

Vintage silver gelatin print developed on a 20" x 24" thick photographic paper. Print is in excellent condition, never framed or displayed, and stored in climate controlled facility. Print displays the beautiful depth and distinctive wavy gloss finish that silver gelatin prints are revered for. Silver gelatin prints are highly sought after by collectors worldwide for their distinctive finish and originality.

Provenance

This collection of prints are owned by a private party that acquired the collection directly from the artist. The collection of prints are 1980's production originally designed for retail distribution. Following a series of exhibitions at reknowned galleries in London, New York, Paris, and Los Angeles, the remaining prints were acquired from Newton directly and documented in a signed legal agreement between parties in 1986. This agreement was further ratified following Newton's passing in 2012 by the Helmut Newton Estate, signed by June Newton, and recorded and filed in the Superior Court of Los Angeles. Print comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by legal representative detailing ownership, right to sell, and authenticity.
