This powerful and visually striking mask is hand carved from wood and richly painted in vivid reds, greens, yellows, and black, retaining its original surface with exceptional character. Likely dating to the 1890s through the turn of the century, the mask reflects traditional ceremonial craftsmanship and expressive folk artistry.
The original suspension string remains intact, along with a cloth pad affixed to the chin area, both adding to its authenticity and historical integrity. A dramatic and rare example of Mexican ceremonial art, offering strong sculptural presence and cultural significance.
