19th Century W. Persian Bijar Carpet ( 5'10" x 13' - 178 x 396 )
Antique Bijar Hallway Runner Wool Multicolor Rug, Circa Date: 1850s. This exceptional Persian Bijar piece exemplifies the renowned durability and robust structure characteristic of the Kurdish weaving tradition. Its early date places it among the finest examples of antique rugs from the mid-19th century.
The striking palette utilizes saturated dyes, featuring bold vertical bands of deep indigo, vibrant cochineal red, and rich saffron yellow. The interplay of these hues creates a dynamic visual rhythm, confirming its status among the desirable multicolor jewel tone rugs sought by collectors.
Designed specifically for transitional spaces, the elongated format of this piece makes it a superb example of hallway runner rugs. Bijar weavers often employed a compressed double-weft technique, ensuring that this runner retains the structural integrity necessary for high-traffic areas, even after more than 170 years.
The field features a highly organized striped design, where each narrow column is filled with minute, repeating boteh and geometric floral motifs. While visually structured, the dense repetition of pattern across the entire field classifies the composition as an effective allover rugs design, lending depth and visual texture to the floor plane.
