Allover Geometric Wool Persian Hand Knotted Pile N.W. Antique 1890s Rug, Country of Origin: Iran / Persia, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional piece exemplifies the robust weaving traditions of the N.W. Persian region, characterized by its durable wool pile and powerful, saturated color palette. The antiquity of this textile, dating to the late 19th century, imbues it with a profound historical presence.
The field is dominated by a rich, oxidized terracotta hue, displaying subtle abrash—a natural color variation that speaks to the use of organic dyes. The composition utilizes an elongated series of interconnected diamond medallions, forming a striking allover design that guides the eye along the length of the carpet. Such bold, geometric compositions are hallmarks of Iranian / Persian rugs produced outside the formal court workshops.
Woven as an oversized runner, this piece is ideally suited for grand corridors, long hallways, or galleries where its scale can be fully appreciated. The narrow format and repeating pattern make it a superb example of Hallway Runner Rugs (3.09ft x 8.1ft), providing a strong decorative anchor while retaining the functionality required for high-traffic areas.
The intricacy of the multiple guard borders frames the central design with precision, offering a visual counterpoint to the powerful main field. As a finely preserved example of early tribal weaving, this carpet represents a significant acquisition for collectors of exceptional antique rugs and historical textiles.
