A rare and evocative example of early European craftsmanship, this 17th-century Dutch travelling chest, made in the Netherlands circa 1680, is presented on an equally exceptional 18th-century chinoiserie stand dating to the 1700s. The chest reflects the robust construction and understated elegance characteristic of Dutch Golden Age travel furniture—designed for durability and portability while maintaining refined proportions. Its compact form and rich patina speak to centuries of use, offering a tangible connection to the era of global trade and exploration. The chest includes seven smaller drawers and one wide drawer in the bottom. In the middle is a cabinet door which opens to a magical little "room" with a tiled floor, mirrored walls and paintings of period characters. A true gem! The later chinoiserie stand, added in the 18th century, France, introduces a striking cross-cultural dialogue. Influenced by Europe’s fascination with East Asian design, the stand features graceful proportions and decorative elements inspired by Chinese motifs, creating a visually compelling and historically layered piece. There is a shelf in the bottom serving to display your favorite objets d'art. Together, the chest and stand form a harmonious composition that embodies the evolution of European taste from the late 17th to early 18th century. This piece would make a distinguished addition to a curated interior, serving beautifully as a decorative accent or collector’s highlight. A truly rare and historically significant object, ideal for collectors of early European antiques or those seeking a statement piece with depth, character, and provenance.
