Beautiful centerpiece with a shape reminiscent of ancient Greek and Roman amphorae, entirely handmade in majolica ceramic. The handles feature a geometric, ladder-shaped design, finished in silver leaf, as do the upper rim of the vase and the base trim. Decorated with a hand-painted floral motif. Signed "DERUTA" under the base. Made by the renowned ceramist Alpinolo Magnini in the first decade of the 20th century in a clear Art Nouveau style, for the Perugia-based C.I.M.A. (Italian Consortium of Artistic Maioliche), of which Magnini was artistic director before Nino Strada. The most important thing to consider when evaluating this centerpiece is that it is made of ceramic. Notice the unglazed edges of the base, which are brown. This means it is hand-molded clay and then glazed with majolica glaze, a pure artisanal piece, not a molded vase.
