This vintage ikebana vase is a strong interior piece: perfect as an accent object on a table, sideboard, or in a niche, and beautiful with a few tulips, irises, a single branch, or a quiet, minimalist arrangement. Even without flowers, it instantly brings atmosphere through its shape, texture, and nuanced glazes.
Afmetingen: hoogte 28 cm, diameter 18 cm.
The vase has a soft, almost droplet-shaped body with a wide, slightly oval opening. On the shoulders are two small, organically applied “ears” that give the silhouette extra character.
The finish is especially rich and well balanced. Much of the surface is covered in a milky white crackle glaze, decorated with delicate grey-toned brushwork: slender leaves and blossoms that strongly evoke irises. On the other side, this transitions into a warm reddish-brown field with playful cream speckling. The boundary between the two zones is intentionally irregular, creating a natural rhythm and a sense of depth.
An original Shigaraki label remains on the shoulder, confirming its origin and craftsmanship. The vase also comes with its original wooden tomobako. Inside the lid is an inscription indicating that this piece was given as a gift on 1 August 1978.
The underside bears an impressed signature, and the vase is in perfect condition.
