Dating to the 1950s–1960s, the desk reflects the era’s Western interpretation of traditional Chinese decorative arts.

The drawer fronts and apron are adorned with hand-applied mother-of-pearl figural inlay, depicting lively pastoral and daily-life scenes inspired by classical Chinese imagery. These luminous shell figures are thoughtfully contrasted with carved hardwood cloud motifs and engraved scenic linework, creating depth, texture, and visual rhythm across the façade.

Constructed of solid hardwood with paneled sides, the desk features a balanced pedestal form with multiple drawers and a wide central kneehole, offering both generous storage and comfortable seating.
