Contemporary capacitive touch sensor lamp by neon artist / lamp designer, Ryan Mulkey. From the "BuraBura" series, referencing a possessed lantern from Japanese Yokai folklore. Each lamp from the series is composed of a molded neon light source supported by a solid walnut 'orb' base. Only the finest materials are employed to create this small, but impressive conversational piece.
The smallest of the BuraBura lamps, this example is named "Otto" after James Otto Hahs, the inventor of the coin operated kiddie ride.
Functionally, the lamp turns on and off with a light touch and fades 4 levels with a prolonged touch. Includes a 12v transformer with a braided fabric cord and a plug that resembles a miniature instrument cable connector.
The glass (blown in Italy) is fairly fragile, and the lamp should only be handled by lifting / adjusting the base alone. In addition, this is a neon tube using high voltage with emits an electric field. It is advisable to keep hard drives, small electronics, etc., at minimum 5" away from the tube.
